Deep in the Heart of Texas…

07 May

Deep in the heart of Texas…. It’s a song for those who don’t know. Cute lyrics. Here is some unimportant information in case you have nothing else to do:

– Once in a while you see fields of tall grass. It has a very nice dark green color. It looks so cool with the strong wind blowing over it. The movement of the grass looks like it’s water. Love it.

– Road trip rules (RTR):
1) Never exceed the speed limit. Saw once someone with CA plates get pulled over in TX probably going only 2 miles above the limit. It’s not worth the extra maybe 5 minutes earlier you might arrive.

2) Arrive before it gets dark at your destination. It’s no fun to drive around in the dark.

3) Have fun! That’s it for the rules.

– Saw huge rolls of fiber optic cable on the side of the freeway about every 2 miles for probably around 50 miles. Most likely they are using those to upgrade the backhaul data network for the cell towers. What a project to bury all this cable.

– Saw a billboard which said: Exit here to buy Amish furniture. Eric says: I wonder if you have to pay with chickens. I said: What do they do with all those chickens? Don’t they have enough by now? Maybe they have chicken banks. Your chicken account even makes interest. They’ll multiple with more chickens. LOL. (Yeah I know you need a rooster too, but the conversation was very funny) The things you see and can twist into something funny on a roadtrip. Priceless!

Ok that’s it. Hope everyone has been entertained. Soon to be in New Mexico. I will get an hour back! Yipppeee!

Missed Opportunity

07 May

Ok I missed my Starbucks opportunity. The one I passed was the last one for 200 miles (322km). Next one 3 hours away in Amarillo, TX. Got one of those frappuccinos in a glass at a gas station. They only had the small size version. Oh well better than nothing. How do these people out here survive? LOL

Driving in Oklahoma & History Class

07 May

I actually got up at 7am. I’m feeling pretty awake now. Had a very small breakfast as I wasn’t hungry. Looking for a Starbucks now. Drove by one. Too late to exit. Long drive ahead. GPS says 8 hours and 28 minutes. 522 miles (840 km). The weather completely changed. Some 40mph winds and almost overcast. The temperature is 58F (14C).

Here is a little history class for Oklahoma. Did you know that the “whites” forcefully moved Indian Tribes from across North America to basically Oklahoma and told them that’s your land? Then later on they realized oh we really want this land so they took it away again and opened it up for white settlers to give them free land. Who lived on this land peacefully for a long time first? Also checkout the term Manifest Destiny. Same basic principle. The sad part about this that it is still going on today but with different players. A majority tries to triumph over a minority or weaker group. Why? Why has humankind such a hard time to see that and learn from the past? Why does it matter that you could triumph over someone else? What do you gain?

Pictures from Day 12

06 May

Here are the pictures for day 12. Going from Wichita, KS to Oklahoma City, OK.

I should be going soon to bed, as it will be a long drive today. I’m supposed to be up and running at 7:30am. The destination will be Albuquerque, NM. I can never remember how to spell the name of this city. On top of that I have trouble pronouncing it as well. Who thought of that name? Instead I’ll just call it Albucookie. I think that’s cuter. :-)

Aubelo’s Restaurant

06 May

I’m so stuffed! :-) Dinner was very good and delicious. Had a good Margarita. Some chicken and steak fajitas. The tres leches cake for dessert. I love that cake!

Ok, have to do some work now. Let’s see how many mistakes I can make. LOL!

Made it to Oklahoma City, OK. About to get ready and go to dinner. Tonight it will be Mexican. I’m going to Aubelo’s. Never been there before. But it looks good. Let’s have some Margaritas! I know, I’m a day late (Cinco de Mayo was yesterday for the European Readers), but who cares right?

Stillwater, OK

06 May

Wanted to go to a Starbucks for some ice tea and a quick bite. There wasn’t any store between where I was and Oklahoma City. But only one in Stillwater,OK. It was like 20 miles east of the Interstate. Went there. Cute college town. Also had a blueberry streusel muffin. It was good. Who knew I’d see Stillwater, OK today. Probably the 1st and last time in my life.

It’s time to put some shorts on too. 90F (32C). Yeah! :-)

On the way Oklahoma City

06 May

What a fantastic morning. I slept longer. Had some breakfast at the hotel. Pretty much the same as yesterday except for the French Toast which I replaced with a hard boiled egg. Absolutely gorgeous weather as well. Pure blue skies. Temperature 80F (26C).

There was a Super Target across the parking lot and a large man-made pond. That’s where I saw baby geese. Awwweeee. They were so cute. There were actually two families with baby geese. I took some pictures.

Inside the Target was a Starbucks. Got the usual morning caffeine supply. It’s already gone though. I didn’t know, but there seems to be lots of airplane manufactures in Wichita. I saw Cessna and Beechcraft.

Now going to Oklahoma City. It’s only 2 hours away now. In about 20 miles I should be in OK land. I like Oklahoma City. Been there before. Bricktown is really nice. The Oklahoma City bombing memorial was done in a very respectful manner. At night I think it’s absolutely stunning.
