The Last Entry and Knowledge for You!

10 May

This is the last entry in the Chicago Roadtrip blog. I feel like this one, puts a perfect ending to this journey. You may not understand it all right now, but that’s okay. If this knowledge does not hold true with your beliefs, then don’t believe it.

This is taken from The Circle of Life book by James David Audlin. Chapter IV: Human Relationships.

Some parts I skipped as they weren’t relevant. There is more to this chapter, but I think that’s plenty of knowledge right there and you need to digest it first.

In the dominant culture, the primacy of the individual goes hand in hand with the concept that all things in the environment are also individual and separate and can therefore be owned. In Europe, ownership developed through the exploitation of nature: as forests were turned into farmland, large-scale agriculture created concentrations of wealth to be defended and traded. Competition for these prizes led to conquests that gradually brought the land and everything in it under the “ownership” of emperors, kings, princes of the Church, the nobility —- with the majority of human beings functioning as commodities in the process of creating wealth and power for others, valuable only for what they produced. Ownership had come to seem natural and normal, and the newcomers brought it to Turtle Island (=North America) with them. Since the people arriving had to count entirely on themselves and their families for survival, they usually sought to possess as much as they could.

The Paintings

09 May

I said I wasn’t going to unpack the luggage, but I couldn’t resist to see the paintings again. I forgot what they looked like. I didn’t take a picture of them when I bought them. Now I did. I’m going to share the beauty of them with you. Have to get them framed though which will make them even more gorgeous. If you know me, then you can figure out which one was my first choice. What hand am I using when I write? Which one would you have chosen?

Click on the images to see the full size version. Had to take a picture from the side so the flash wouldn’t mess it all up. Looks much better in real life.

Pictures from Day 15 (Last Day)

09 May

Made it home safely. It feels good to be home again. Nothing major since dinner happened so I have nothing new to share. :-) Actually I’m quite surprised on how much the plants have grown in those 2 weeks. The rose bush in the front yard looked like almost dead when I left and now it turned into this monster with a gazillion red/pinkish roses. The grape vine had a few leaves and now it’s crowded with leaves and tiny little growth for eventually the grapes in the fall. Did I mention the jasmine? Oh my this plant got huge and it’s full with flowers. I think bigger than it ever was. I smelled the flowers of the jasmine and they smell so good, you can’t take your nose away from it. All kinds of other ones have beautiful flowers or have grown quite a bit. The magic of life. What a welcome, plants! Thank you! :-)

I hope I was able to share some of the laughter and fun with you guys. I had an incredible time and I’m absolutely grateful that I could experience the roadtrip in such a magical way. I had no idea what I would all see or get to do or even learn. Every day was a complete new adventure. Everyday life may not seem like this much fun or adventurous, but it really is. Just the fact of waking up in the morning should be considered as a miracle. Right in front of you is a brand new day and you can do anything you’d like to do with it. You may have forgotten how special it is to wake up every day, because you have done it so often in your life. If you have forgotten, try to change your attitude and you will get the specialness back. I guarantee it. Anyway, my little way of giving back the amazing time I had. Thank you very much!!!

Here are the final pictures. Enjoy!

Soon to be Home

09 May

Soon to be home. There are 4 lanes now and all these CA plates. I wonder why? :-) Have to get used to all this traffic and some rude/crazy drivers again. Around 100 miles outside of LA you start to get 3 lanes. It’s just amazing as it happened nowhere else this far out. Stopped at Chipoodle for dinner. I like to call them that way. The official name is Chipotle. Why is it so cold? 60F (15C). Have to check up on the weather to see what’s going on.

I’m pretty sure I won’t be doing any unpacking tonight.

Chiriaco Summit, CA

09 May

Just visited Chiriaco Summit. There isn’t much except a gas station and a Fosters Freeze. Always stop there to have one thing only and that’s a chocolate ice cream cone dipped in chocolate. Sooo good. Drove all the way out from Chicago for this place. :-)

Frisco, CO

27 Apr

Really very cute town. Finally found a Starbucks which is open. Lots of are closed here due to shoulder season (not winter or summer season). Here I got again: 10 pumps??? Yes Yes!

Pictures along I-70

26 Apr

Really beautiful drive. Wish pictures could show the true beauty. This is along I-70.

Pictures From Day 1

26 Apr

Ok here are some pictures from day one. Click on the pictures to see a larger size and a description. After finding some fast food in Nevada, the drive went into Arizona. The interstate went through the Virgin River Gorge. Stunning. The Cedar City historic downtown was amazing. Don’t forget to read the sign with me and the red flag. This was so funny. It always amazes me that you can drive for a few hours and then it’s like you are in a different world. What I really like about small towns, people are so friendly. In a big city you couldn’t leave those flags out. They would be stolen in no time. I really liked the look of those trees in the downtown district. The only problem with those is the blossoms smelled like cat poop. :-o Dinner was great. The restaurant was recommended by the front desk of the hotel. The restaurant was around 5 miles outside of the city. You had to go up a small windy mountain road. Spectacular scenery. Ok, I’m still waiting for the images to finish uploading. It’s already 1:30am here now. Oh well I’m still on CA time. Planning to leave again at 9am (8am for me) The destination will be Glenwood Springs, CO.

Barstow

25 Apr

The coffee didn’t last too long. Stopped at another Starbucks in Barstow for ice tea. I often get strange looks if I ask for 10 pumps of vanilla in a venti cup. Hey the regular 6 pumps just don’t make it sweet enough. Who wants to drink unsweetened tea? :-) Here is a picture from that Starbucks. Very nice weather 76F (24C). Probably the warmest it’ll be on this trip.

First Stop Starbucks

25 Apr

Left pretty much on time. First stop was Starbucks. It’s a law you can’t start a roadtrip without going to Starbucks first. Had a grande eight pump vanilla latte (enough caffeine for me) and a power protein plate. The peanut butter package for the bagel didn’t want to open. It said easy pour. Yeah right. :-)

Ok will be going along the 15 North driving right through Vegas. No stopping there or I’ll get in trouble. :-)

The destination for tonight will be Cedar City, UT. Small town. And an hour will be lost too when going into Mountain Daylight Saving Time.
