Here are the pictures from Day 10 (Chicago to Ankeny, IA). I only took one. The other ones are from Day 11 (Ankeny, IA to Wichita, KS).

Aubelo’s Restaurant
I’m so stuffed! :-) Dinner was very good and delicious. Had a good Margarita. Some chicken and steak fajitas. The tres leches cake for dessert. I love that cake!
Ok, have to do some work now. Let’s see how many mistakes I can make. LOL!
In Oklahoma City, OK
Made it to Oklahoma City, OK. About to get ready and go to dinner. Tonight it will be Mexican. I’m going to Aubelo’s. Never been there before. But it looks good. Let’s have some Margaritas! I know, I’m a day late (Cinco de Mayo was yesterday for the European Readers), but who cares right?
Stillwater, OK
Wanted to go to a Starbucks for some ice tea and a quick bite. There wasn’t any store between where I was and Oklahoma City. But only one in Stillwater,OK. It was like 20 miles east of the Interstate. Went there. Cute college town. Also had a blueberry streusel muffin. It was good. Who knew I’d see Stillwater, OK today. Probably the 1st and last time in my life.
It’s time to put some shorts on too. 90F (32C). Yeah! :-)
On the way Oklahoma City
What a fantastic morning. I slept longer. Had some breakfast at the hotel. Pretty much the same as yesterday except for the French Toast which I replaced with a hard boiled egg. Absolutely gorgeous weather as well. Pure blue skies. Temperature 80F (26C).
There was a Super Target across the parking lot and a large man-made pond. That’s where I saw baby geese. Awwweeee. They were so cute. There were actually two families with baby geese. I took some pictures.
Inside the Target was a Starbucks. Got the usual morning caffeine supply. It’s already gone though. I didn’t know, but there seems to be lots of airplane manufactures in Wichita. I saw Cessna and Beechcraft.
Now going to Oklahoma City. It’s only 2 hours away now. In about 20 miles I should be in OK land. I like Oklahoma City. Been there before. Bricktown is really nice. The Oklahoma City bombing memorial was done in a very respectful manner. At night I think it’s absolutely stunning.
Wichita, KS
Made it to Wichita, KS. Checked into the hotel, but now it’s time to work. I had lots of great adventures during the day, but can’t ignore the more serious part of life. The Balance of Life!
Dinner Adventure (Part 2)
Oh my dinner was an adventure. I’m still smiling. I pulled up the address in my phone. Getting close and it says there are 4 exists for Emporia. I said ok it’s exit 133. Next exit which shows up is 131. That meant we were already too far. The exit numbers are counting down if you go south. Turned around at the next exit and got off on 133. Then it was time to look for the restaurant. Oh my this town looked like time stood still since the 60s. :-) The maps on Google showed it like to be on 607 W 6th Ave. Driving along 6th Ave I see 600 and then as it’s often the case you can’t find any other house number for a while. The next one I see is 800 something. Ok we missed it. Nobody saw it. Turn around and look again. But right were 607 could be is an empty lot. Ok this place doesn’t exist. :-) I pulled up tripadvisor again and said it’s not on 6th Ave, it’s on Merchant St. Why did Google put the pin on 6th Ave and not on Merchant St? It’s actually right on the corner. Oh it was so funny. Going to a place and then it might not even exist. Outside of the restaurant looked kinda strange. The reviews were good so I figured let’s give it a try. The inside was actually nicer. It was a typical small town restaurant. I certainly didn’t expect a Ralph Lauren. LOL. Decide on getting the ribs and the sampler plate. One review was raving about this sampler. The guy said he even got I think two more to go in the morning. 2 minutes later the food was on the table. I thought wow that was fast. Eating the rips and they were pretty good. The meat was really falling off the bone. Ok I thought not too bad. Try the sampler which was a mountain of meat. Ham & Turkey & pulled pork etc. Oh my that was horrible. It tasted like it stood all day in the kitchen. So we both basically ate the rips. Of course I couldn’t let that mountain of meat go back so I asked for a to-go box. Put it all in. And it went into a trash can outside. I felt bad, but nothing I could do to give the food to someone else. I don’t know how this guy could rave about this sampler so much.
I’m on meat overload again. Have to find something else tomorrow.
Did I mention the Kansas map shortage problem? It’s nicer to have a paper map as it gives you a nice overview of the entire route. Anyway first stop at a gas station in Kansas there was a rack and it looked there was a rush on maps. It was mostly empty. Only had a couple maps and they were all for Missouri. Ok after dinner stop at another gas station to clean windshield and look for a map. They had maps for Nebraska, Colorado, Missouri etc., but not a single one for Kansas. I guess Kansas must have fallen off the map. :-)
Dinner was truly an adventure such a fun story. Makes you laugh to think about it again.
About half an hour left till Wichita.
The Dinner Adventure Tonight!
Ok I’m getting hungry now. Can’t wait till I get to Wichita, KS. Did some research and found Bobby D’s in Emporia, KS. The reviews are good. So let’s check it out. It’ll be an adventure. A surprise. BTW 2.8 million people are supposed to be living in the entire state of Kansas. Wow no wonder it’s so crowded here. LOL.
Kansas City, MO/KS
The drive through Missouri was uneventful. I wanted to find a Starbucks, but there were none. I think for 150 miles or more. Not a single one. Can you believe that? Aren’t they usually on every block? :-) Finally ended up at a gas station where they had the gold peak ice tea. Yes of course had to be the sweetened one. :-) In Kansas City, MO stopped at Country Club Plaza. Strolled around there. Looked very pretty. After that tried to get back on the Interstate. Ended up crossing Stateline Road within the city. Thought that must be the state line into Kansas. No sign nothing. That was a new experience crossing into a new state without really knowing if you are in that state. The license plates changed to Kansas so that was an indicator. Finally checked the map and that confirmed that Stateline Road was the actual stateline.
How creative were they? There are two Kansas Cities. One in Kansas and another in Missouri.
Hit some good traffic coming out of Kansas City, KS. Didn’t think they would have traffic there. I’m not sure how it got so late. Probably due to my Zanzibar coffee adventure in the morning. :-) Still 2 hrs and 20 minutes to go.
Here is a picture of Kansas traffic. I know it’s really interesting as you guys don’t know what traffic looks like. :-)
