Oh my dinner was an adventure. I’m still smiling. I pulled up the address in my phone. Getting close and it says there are 4 exists for Emporia. I said ok it’s exit 133. Next exit which shows up is 131. That meant we were already too far. The exit numbers are counting down if you go south. Turned around at the next exit and got off on 133. Then it was time to look for the restaurant. Oh my this town looked like time stood still since the 60s. :-) The maps on Google showed it like to be on 607 W 6th Ave. Driving along 6th Ave I see 600 and then as it’s often the case you can’t find any other house number for a while. The next one I see is 800 something. Ok we missed it. Nobody saw it. Turn around and look again. But right were 607 could be is an empty lot. Ok this place doesn’t exist. :-) I pulled up tripadvisor again and said it’s not on 6th Ave, it’s on Merchant St. Why did Google put the pin on 6th Ave and not on Merchant St? It’s actually right on the corner. Oh it was so funny. Going to a place and then it might not even exist. Outside of the restaurant looked kinda strange. The reviews were good so I figured let’s give it a try. The inside was actually nicer. It was a typical small town restaurant. I certainly didn’t expect a Ralph Lauren. LOL. Decide on getting the ribs and the sampler plate. One review was raving about this sampler. The guy said he even got I think two more to go in the morning. 2 minutes later the food was on the table. I thought wow that was fast. Eating the rips and they were pretty good. The meat was really falling off the bone. Ok I thought not too bad. Try the sampler which was a mountain of meat. Ham & Turkey & pulled pork etc. Oh my that was horrible. It tasted like it stood all day in the kitchen. So we both basically ate the rips. Of course I couldn’t let that mountain of meat go back so I asked for a to-go box. Put it all in. And it went into a trash can outside. I felt bad, but nothing I could do to give the food to someone else. I don’t know how this guy could rave about this sampler so much.
I’m on meat overload again. Have to find something else tomorrow.
Did I mention the Kansas map shortage problem? It’s nicer to have a paper map as it gives you a nice overview of the entire route. Anyway first stop at a gas station in Kansas there was a rack and it looked there was a rush on maps. It was mostly empty. Only had a couple maps and they were all for Missouri. Ok after dinner stop at another gas station to clean windshield and look for a map. They had maps for Nebraska, Colorado, Missouri etc., but not a single one for Kansas. I guess Kansas must have fallen off the map. :-)
Dinner was truly an adventure such a fun story. Makes you laugh to think about it again.
About half an hour left till Wichita.
